What is a Union?

A group of workers who join together to bargain with bosses for better pay, safety, and benefits.
Why would I want to join a Union?

To give yourself a seat at the table and help negotiate your wages and benefits instead of waiting for the Company to decide what they want to do.
Why would I want to pay Union Dues?

Union Dues are used to pay for your representation and contract negotiations. As a member you have full transparency and are allowed to vote on how the Union uses the money it collects. Quarry Locals are unlike Construction and Craft locals, meaning they charge a much smaller percentage on dues amounts
Why does my employer say that Unions are bad?

Unions put more power in the workers’ hands. By uniting and giving yourself a voice it makes the company feel less powerful.

My employer usually gives me a raise every year why should I think that is going to change?

Corporations change, management changes, corporate greed; there is a long list of variables that change over time that can affect how an employer treats their workers. Do you have a say in how much your raise is going to be each year? What about your insurance and retirement? When you are in a Union the workers get to negotiate their pay and benefits, then vote whether they are willing to accept them.
I don’t know a lot about Unions but my boss told me we don’t them here.

If Unions are bad, why have all these surrounding companies voted to go Union? Do they know something you don’t? Or maybe they got tired of the same broken promises!
